Katie Melua chats to I Like Music

ILM: Yeah, well we grow as people over time and you have more life experiences…

KATIE: Yeah definitely.

ILM: Your 'gig in a rig' had set a Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater concert. You went under survival training before performing at the Troll A Platform in the North Sea 303m below sea level. The concert took place at the bottom of one of the four shafts of the Statoil Troll A Platform gas rig. How mad was that?

KATIE: It was brilliant; it was really good [sorry I'm just spraying some throat spray]. It was excellent; it was so out of the world. Not only the training but also doing the gig, because of the acoustics, they were just like being on another planet; I absolutely loved it. It was surreal. One minute I was playing a concert at the bottom of the sea and then later that evening, having been flown back to London, I was sat at home with a cup of tea!

ILM: When we last spoke you said that one gig that really stood out for me and was probably the highlight of that year (2004), was when you played on the same stage that Eva Cassidy played on when she was alive. That was extremely emotional and felt really special to be able to do that. What's been a live highlight since then?

KATIE: It would probably be the gig on a rig one, because it was so different to anything I'd done before. And I also loved doing Live Earth, that was special; an incredible event to be apart of.

ILM: What are your tips for young people just starting out in their careers on achieving their dreams career?

KATIE: I'd say work hard. Success involves a lot of hard work, dedication and don't give up.page << 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 >>
