ILM: Please describe the track and its whole vibe?
GREG: Heartbeat was quite a surprise for us because originally when we recorded it in the studio, it was going to be a B-side but we chopped a couple of bits out, some bridges and messed around with the arrangements and got it down to a two minutes 50 pop song, straight in there. It's a classic love song about seeing a girl or a guy across a crowded room and you're speechless, you can't muster up any words because your little heart is fluttering away.
ILM: You've recently played Japan and your first US appearances at SXSW and New York - how was that? Any highlights?
GREG: Japan was an amazing experience, it's a completely different culture and we spent four days there and we got an average of two hours sleep a night, because we were running around the streets of Tokyo trying to sink it all in; it was amazing. When we got to the show it was really quiet in the auditorium and Roy and Pete nearly walked out on the stage but it was full with 2,500 people. But the Japanese crowds are great, they'll go completely mad for you at the end of the song, clapping and cheering, and then they'll stop dead quiet, waiting for you to start the next track. It's the most bizarre thing. British crowds, they don't care, they'll talk about what they've had for dinner over a few pints. That was a real privilege to play Japan and hopefully we'll go back there. The States was awesome as well. Playing South by South West; it's like the ultimate music festival without any tents or mud. Every bar along the street has ten bands playing there per day, it's an amazing thing hearing all this different music… and you get to stay in a hotel and having sunshine. I'd kind of forgotten what the sun looked like.
