:: PROUD MARY BIOGRAPHY ::
A musical journey through Tennessee and Louisiana and on through Texas and California; a journey made all the more surprising for its starting point. Manchester. England.
Proud Mary took their lead, like their name, from southern swamp rockers
Creedence Clearwater Revival and have developed a sound that draws from across the American canon: The Band, Neil Young, Bob Dylan are obvious reference points.
Proud Mary came to life in 2001 when their debut album "The Same Old Blues" was released on Noel Gallagher's Sour Mash records. Produced by Noel, the album went on to win plaudits for its country/rock-influenced original songs and led to lengthy periods of touring, including major support slots with the likes of Oasis, Strereophonics & Neil Young, among others. Their last live show was in support of Paul Weller in Hyde Park at the end of 2002.
Now built around the nucleus of Greg Griffin (vocals) and Paul "Spot" Newsome (guitars & vocals), Proud Mary spent much of 2003 writing and recording their new album which is due for release on May 17th on Redemption Records.
The new album is produced by Proud Mary along with Jan Kybert and Wayne Edwards. Fans will recognise a couple of the more popular songs from later live performances, recorded here for the first time, along with a collection of great new songs.
The album consolidates the band's unrivalled position as interpreters of an unforgettable age and also contains a few surprises, possibly hinting at new directions.page << 1 2 >>
