Their songs have become anthems: "What a Waster", "I Get Along", "Up the Bracket", "Boys in the Band", "Time for Heroes" and "Don't Look Back into the Sun". They sing and play and live this life that sits in the previously unexplored point halfway between the urban assault of The Clash and the arch romanticism of The Smiths. The new album is produced by Mick Jones and engineered by Bill Price (who worked on London's Calling, and with Guns n' Roses).
It's release follows a knockout set at Reading Festival without estranged guitarist Pete Doherty.
Songs from both their new and previous album, Up The Bracket got everyone jumping, and, although Pete played the previous night himself at the Fez Club in Reading with Babyshambles (his band), The Libertines played reading with Anthony Rossamondo standing in for Pete.
'Up The Bracket', 'The Saga', 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun', 'Can't Stand Me Now', 'Time For Heroes', 'Ha Ha Wall', 'Good Old Days', 'What A Waster' and closing track 'I Get Along' proved The Libertines still rock. We just hope Pete scoops himself and kicks his habit before it's too late.
