Cesar Sangwa: ilikemusic because... it's there for me through thick and thin, highs and lows. I think about it when I wake up, and when I close my eyes to sleep. I like music because I'm in love with it!
SnR: ilikemusic because... its food for the soul! From the iconic opening riff you know you are in the presence of an almighty 'hook'. A superfreakin' genre defining hook. This is Chromeo's 'Over & Over', their 'Young Folks', their 'Standing In The Way of Control', the song that a thousand lovers first locked eyes to, the song that taught indie how to two step to slap bass. Sending bubbles of pleasure up the spine live, it's percolated up from the underground to be a 21st century floor filler.
Added to a special edition of the Chromeo album 'Fancy Footwork' due to overwhelming public demand, the sharpest remixers in the blogosphere have been given the chance to play with an anthem (not to mention a little known guitar band in love with dancing called Bloc Party).
Which marks the end of an extraordinary year for Chromeo. They've sold out The Scala and announced a KOKO show for April. Kayne West has recommended them on his blog. They've done US network TV. The club kids are still there but now the red tops turn up to their gigs.
They took over Annie Mac's Radio 1 show - complete with P-Thugg's talk box idents. Billie Piper performed a sex act to their last single 'Bonafied Lovin' when it was synced with her ITV drama The Secret Dairy of a Call Girl. The cherry on top? In a mind-bogglingly pleasing post modern circle, Hall & Oates emailed them asking for a collabo.
With some key heads at radio now hooked on chrome, the night club masterpiece is emerging into the daytime. Not that Back Yard would ever forget the clubs. The remix package is a who's who of what's doing it out there at the moment; Lifelike, Teenage Bad Girl, Paper Faces, Boy 8 -Bit. That Bloc Party mix, turned in out of admiration for the song, unlocks the Breakfast Club teen melodrama of the lyrics in their 'High School Prom' version. Call your friends, 'Needy Girl' is back!
