Guillemots - Kriss Kross
Guillemots are back on your porch with a colour-filled double A-side single: Kriss Kross / Clarion, released on Polydor.
Co-produced by Guillemots (Fyfe Dangerfield, Magrao, Aristazabal Hawkes, Greig Stewart) and Adam Noble, Kriss Kross / Clarion showcases two of the stand out tracks from the band's daring second album Red. The single will be available as a four-track digital bundle and very special super limited edition 10" vinyl (which will also include two previously unreleased tracks).
'We've always meant to put out a double A-side at some point', explains Guillemots front man Fyfe Dangerfield. 'And we couldn't decide which of Kriss Kross and Clarion should be the next single, so now seemed like the right time'.
Written by the whole band, Kriss Kross is the album's inspired opening track, featuring a trademark Guillemots transition as a dark, raging verse crashes into a jubilant, Motown-inflected chorus. Clarion, meanwhile, is a bubbling, almost cartoon-like R'n'B track, written by Fyfe 'in a bedroom in Vauxhall' way back in 2003.
Kriss Kross was the first song we wrote that we knew would definitely be on Red says Fyfe. 'It got the album started really - and it's always such fun to play live now.. it always seems like a big moment in our gigs. Clarion was more of a gradual process, coming as it did from an old four-track. We just layered on loads and loads of tiny keyboard sounds to create this kind of flickering sound. And it has this Chinese instrument called a pipa at the end, which I've always wanted to use on a track. It was a fun song to record'.
