After releasing her debut single Obsessions and The Crown Jewels EP through upstart NY indie label Neon Gold Records earlier this year, Marina And The Diamonds is pleased to release her debut single with 679/Atlantic Records Mowgli's Road.
Originally included on the Obsessions single release, Mowgli's has been re-worked for this release with production credits from Liam Howe. From the opening "cuckoo" you're lead into a playfully dark musical landscape that fuses The Jungle Book with Kate Bush. Theatrics and funny voices aside, this song is a pure pop classic that demonstrates Marina's unique lyricism and her mastery of a catchy chorus.
Marina mentions some of the reasons behind her choice to release Mowgli's Road:
"After playing around 27 festival dates this summer, Mowgli's was definitely one of the crowd favourites and it is 100% representative of me as an artist, an individual and a creative spirit". She goes on to say: "The song is inspired by personal experiences of trying to forge my own artistic identity within music".
Mowgli's Road has been remixed by a whole host of acts/DJs including Mille, Phenomenal Handclap Band, Russ Chimes and Steve. Multi-membered pop sensation Gaggle have also recorded their own cover.
With supporters across Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6Music (Huw Stephens, Rob Da Bank, Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley, Dermot O'Leary, Lauren Laverne, Nemone, Jon Hillcock and John Kennedy), and her live show gaining momentum, 2010 will be a sparkling year for Ms. Diamond.
