I Like Music Because heading
  • JunJun: ilikemusic because... music can convey a mood, enhance a mood or change a mood. Music can be used to inspire and the artform is simple yet complicated. It's fun to listen to and even more fun to create and perform. It speaks when just a simple word can't. It's a blessing!!

The Whitest Boy Alive - Burning

After for what feels like a lifetime of waiting, The Whitest Boy Alive hits UK shores this month to tour their stunning debut album 'Dreams'.

However first comes debut single 'Burning'. Showcasing the band's distinctive eponymous lo-fi haunting pop at its most upbeat, 'Burning' is beautiful yet dark, sublime and danceable - the perfect introduction to the world of The Whitest Boy Alive.

TWBA are a fairly secretive band who let their music do the talking and Modular was happy to use their world to help spread this wonderful record through word of mouth.

What do we know? Well, they're a four-piece based in Berlin and they recorded their music without any superficial layering or effects. The album is also a rarity in that it was recorded entirely live.

We also know that they're fronted by Erlend Oye (who you may know as one half of Kings of Convenience) and that the quartet originally started in 2003 as an electronic dance music project when lead singer Erlend hooked up with Marcin Oz, resident DJ at the city's WMF club. The bands studio was previously Erich Honecker's secret hideout in Café Moskau and it was there they discovered and joined up with remaining two members Sebastian Maschat and Daniel Nentwig

The album 'Dreams' will follow for release on modular records.

Be sure to catch them live. Their next live dates are:
7th Feb 2008 The Electric Ballroom, London

Whitest Boy Alive are:

Erlend Øye- Lead vocs/ Guitar
Marcin Öz- bass
Sebastian Maschat- drums
Daniel Nentwig- Rhodes & crumar

"Oye sounds like he's been waiting all his life to embrace the electric
guitar...his lyrics negotiate melancholy more astutely than either his
electronic solo debut or acoustic duo Kings of Convenience" SPIN
