Who exactly are the XX Teens?

So who exactly are the XX Teens? They're an art school band, right?

Anthony: Well, we first met at college, in Southend, but we weren't particularly interested in each other, we made friends at art school.
Rich: Yes, we were in the same studio. Everyone had their own little desk and a patch of wall for their paintings, but we were both trying to make films, with big sets and actors and soundtracks.
Anthony: Eventually everyone else ended up moving away, we weren't very popular, we were left with our own room. We used to shut the door and put up a sign saying, "Do Not Enter - FILMING", and then sit in our armchairs talking and drinking.

Weren't they once called Xerox Teens?

Rich: Well, I was already in a very shit electro-punk band with that name. We only ever played about two gigs, but we didn't have any good songs, except one very long story song that lasted about fourteen minutes, but it was, arguably, also shit.
Anthony: They were a two-piece, with a drum machine. Rich convinced me to play guitar with them, for a gig, I still haven't forgiven him.
