Justin Bieber is the talented 16-year-old R&B singer from Canada who shot to fame after posting videos of himself singing on YouTube. His debut album has already gone platinum, and having already supported Taylor Swift on tour, he is now gearing up to embark on his own headline world tour!

I Like Music spoke with Justin about presenting at the Grammys, singing for President Obama, what he does when he isn’t dealing with adoring fans and which musicians float his boat.

"I Like Music because… I’m able to express myself through music and say things that I can’t really say in words.” Justin Bieber

ILM: You’ve achieved so much in a relatively short period of time, what have been the highlights of your journey so far?

Justin Bieber: I got to present at the Grammys, I got to perform for the President…this last year has just been incredible!

ILM: What have been the biggest things you’ve learnt about being in the music industry?

Justin Bieber: Just to stay humble. The music industry can be shady sometimes, so you’ve got to make sure you’ve got the right people around you, and the right people to guide you in the right direction.

ILM: There are a lot of young people that look up to you, what would be your advice to young musicians who want to take the same leap as you have?

Justin Bieber: Stay grounded and just do your best in everything. And remember to put God first.

ILM: What have you got planned for the future?

Justin Bieber: I’m looking forward to touring, that’ll be a lot of fun! Doing some skits on Saturday Night Live would be fantastic! My first songs were done almost two years ago, so I was really new to everything. The second part of the album was done recently though, so I’ve had more experience now.

ILM: You’ve already worked with some incredible artists, who’s left to collaborate with?

Justin Bieber: I’d love to collaborate with Beyonce, and Lil Wayne would be amazing to work with...!

ILM: How has fame changed your life?

Justin Bieber: It’s fun! I love my fans, they’ve been really supportive. I’ve pretty much stayed the same and I'm still having fun with it. I’ve got really great friends around me so it’s been great!

ILM: What’s a typical evening when you’ve got a bit of time to yourself?

Justin Bieber: I’m always hanging out, having fun. I like to go bowling, hang out with my friends, go to the movies, play hockey. Just do regular things!

ILM: What was it like making the album?

Justin Bieber: The studio is fun! I love to be in the studio and to be able to record and create different stuff. Studio’s one of my favourite parts. The only thing better than the studio is playing live.

ILM: What have been your most memorable live moments so far?

Justin Bieber: It has to be playing for the President!

ILM: Wow! Were you nervous beforehand?

Justin Bieber: Not really, I don’t get nervous! It was pretty incredible just having the President watching everything that I did. It was pretty cool!

ILM: What can we expect from the upcoming tour dates?

Justin Bieber: You’re gonna see a lot of cool stuff. There’s gonna be a lot of magic stuff! It’s gonna be a fun, cool show...

ILM: Who are your musical idols?

Justin Bieber: Michael Jackson, Boys II Men, stuff like that.

ILM: What have you been listening to recently?

Justin Bieber: I like the new B.O.B. record, Nothing On You.

ILM: A lot of your tracks have a pop-urban feel to them, can we expect anything different in the future?

Justin Bieber: I’d love to do an acoustic album. I think my fans would love that too. We'll see!
