Interview #94: Louie

It’s early days yet but Louie possess days in abundance. Barely out of teenage dementia – and in the case of the two boys upfront, not out of it all - Louie might just be the band we’ve all been waiting for. Louie could just as easily be named after one of the most seminal rock ‘n’ roll songs ever to have been written as they could be after another word for a pimp. Either way, when you have heard them or witnessed one of their shows, you will know that it matters not: Louie, as simply au fait with rock ‘n’ roll iconography as they might be, have just as simply got it.

Louie feature two nineteen year old singers called Jordan Smith and Gaz Tomlinson from Cumbria and York respectively plus lead guitarist Russell Ditchfield and rhythm guitarist Luke Morris. Their intensely cool line-up is completed by Andy on bass and Mikey Parrish on drums.

I Like Music caught up with bassist Andy Twigden for a quick chat ...

ILM: Your new single The Curves And The Bends was out in early March. Can you give us your own personal description of the tracks whole vibe?

Andy: It’s just filthy teen rock n’roll innit? Well innit?

ILM: This is your second single, are there plans for an album this year? Can you give us an insight to what we could expect from your debut?

Andy: We’re busting our guts in the studio right now, as this very moment… as we speak.

ILM: Of all the tracks you have done so far, which one did you have the most fun laying down?

Andy: Dead Man; putting new parts into the track. Go seek it out, you will not be disappointed.

ILM: You guys were touring recently with Dirty Pretty Things, how was it?

Andy: We got on really well with Dirty Pretty Things and well enjoyed playing to their crowd. Dirty Pretty Things love Louie!!! (well naturally)

ILM: You are noted for your electric live performances, and strong connection with a youth audience. What do you look forward to the most about playing live?

Andy: Getting people off on our music!! That’s what it’s all about and the response from the crowd during this last tour was pretty full on, and it’s just going to get better from here.

ILM: Is there a track you like to play live the most?

Andy: Young Evil Souls. You’ll hear it coming a mile off.

ILM: Can you describe the Louie process of writing and recording head-pounding sonic punk?!

Andy: We’d tell you but then we’d have to KILL YOU.

ILM: Loads of people are using the internet these days and getting their music out there before even getting a record deal. How has the internet affected you guys?

Andy: We set up out MySpace page with the release of our first single Trees and it’s already getting clogged up with new friends and fans. It’s brilliant, there’s much more of a personal edge to it than simply having an official website. Our fans are really interacting, and that’s what we love.

ILM: You are still at the very beginning but you must have learnt a lot so far. Have you any advice for others looking to come into music industry?

Andy: Play as many gigs as you can, and GIVE IT SOME!!!

ILM: What are the future plans for Louie?

Andy: An album is in the pipeline and then eventual world domination, the LOUIE WAY.

ILM: Can you describe your favourite place on Earth?

Andy: The Studio, I mean it’s just a paradisal place of inspiration and industry. Either that or Venezuela.

ILM: What’s in your CD player right now?

Andy: Graham Coxon’s new album is simply wicked, we’ve also got Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre and Kasabian banging on our lugholes.
