Pop dreamscapes, boy-meets-girl harmonies and star-gazing orchestration driven forward with jaunty percussion - the self-titled EP from Oslo six piece Team Me prompted a little further research from the I Like Music team, resulting in a spate of questions fired across to the band. Here's what they had to say...
"I Like Music because… music likes me!” Team Me
ILM: We really liked the Team Me EP :) For those yet to hear its wondrous sounds, how would you describe it?
Team Me: Thank you, we are really happy with the EP! It's basically five pretty straight forward pop songs with pretty weird and quirky instrumentation. The arrangements might be a little odd as well... ;)
ILM: Your artwork and design is great! How did that come to be? What's the ethos behind it?
Team Me: Our keyboard player Simen made it together with Synne, our female lead... :) They have their own little art collective called APPARATET. They basically listened to the songs and the lyrics for a while, then they came up with it. I think the idea was sort of like an introduction to some sort of a world, a different kind of world, some kind of reality escape I guess. A team me-bubble in a way. That's why there is a kaleidoscopeish pyramid, the door, the little boy and the pond.
ILM: What's the story behind Team Me. How did you meet and when did you get together?
Team Me: It all started with this Demo-competition back in Norway about a year ago. Team Me (Team Me being a solo project at the time) was selected as one out of ten finalists and I basically had to get a band together and perform a couple of songs during the demo-competition-show. I simply phoned up some of my friends and asked them if they were interested in doing one show, one show only. That didn't happen, hehe.
ILM: Is there a shared vision for the band?
Team Me: The idea and the fact that music should be something positive and constructive.
ILM: How would you describe your process of making music together?
Team Me: It always starts with an idea, a verse and a chorus, a melody and some lyrics. The songs are finalised by all of us, together in the rehearsal room.
ILM: What's the music scene like in Oslo?
Team Me: There are a lot of really nice things going on in the underground scene in Oslo, that's basically where we belong or at least that's where we feel like we belong. Here are some really hot tips: Twin pines mall, Einar Stray, Kråkesølv, Ludvig Moon, Uno Møller, Bel Senna, Moddi, Bendik, Truls and Trees, Mount Melody.
ILM: Anywhere we should definitely visit if we come over?
Team Me: There`s a Rockabilly Cafe dubbed Ryes, they`ve got the most amazing pistachio milkshake. Ever.
ILM: What music have you been listening to recently?
Team Me: The new Radiohead record, The King of Limbs, and the first Rockettothesky album has been frequently played on my iPod.
ILM: Out of all the live shows you've played so far, which have been some of the most memorable?
Team Me: We actually did a showcase at KOKO in London a month ago, that was pretty sick.
ILM: Who / what are your biggest inspirations?
Team Me: Since we are six individuals in Team Me, as you can imagine, it's really a lot of different things that inspire us. I think we inspire each other and the fact that a lot of things are happening with the band at the moment makes us really inspired as well.
ILM: What are your future plans?
Team Me: PLay more shows, record our debut album, smile, enjoy and hopefully do even more shows... :)
ILM: Anything else we should know about Team Me?
Team Me: Team me fun fact: Our drummer Bjarne started playing drums at the age of three. He is now really into curling and 90`s Norwegian black metal!
