Twizzle

With swagger and skill beyond his 18 years, this West Londoner is joining the dots between his heroes (Jay Z, Dizzee etc) to take British urban music forward and into the future.

Having cut his teeth spitting on the pirate radio stations around Shepherds Bush from the age of 14, Twizzle soon graduated to the local “Got West On Lock” freestyle competition. Which he won hands-down. Two years running. His reputation as a rhymer to be reckoned with soon brought him to the attention of Squarepeg management who hooked the young man up with producers Benji Vaughan and Greenmoney (remixers for Kanye West, Yo Majesty and many others). The results include his debut release: Skydiving.

Produced by the Greenmoney duo, Alex Phountzi of Bugs In The Attic and Leo Greenslade from the legendary club night YoYo, the track has that unmistakable energy of a 21st century UK dance floor: a melting pot of hip-hop’s strut, house’s tempo, drum n bass’s rabble rousing klaxon, pop’s instant hooks, plus.. that extra “something”.

I Like Music managed to catch the young urban superstar in the making for a quick chat...

"I Like Music because… it’s my life.” Twizzle

ILM: How would you describe the sound and vibe of Skydiving?

Twizzle: The sound of Skydiving is like that new wave sound with influences of rock, dubstep, rap, electro and funky house all rolled in to one for all the party animals!

ILM: What sets the Twizzle sound apart?

Twizzle: Originality and reality is what sets my sound apart. It's motivational. It will make you want to Skydive... (Twizzle laughs)

ILM: Tell us about your lyrics - What are they influenced by? Where do you write? How does it all come to be?

Twizzle: My music and lyrics are influenced by my life, the area I grew up in and situations I've been through -both bad and good. I usually write my music by the computer in my front room or in my room. Wherever it comes to me really.

ILM: You've been working with GreenMoney, what's that been like?

Twizzle: Yeah it's been cool. Shouts to Leo and Alex. It was very productiive working with Green Money, their input helped a lot. I look forward to doing other projects with them in the future.

ILM: What can we expect from your debut album?

Twizzle: My debut album is going to be packed with club bangers, feel good songs and inspirational music. Hopefully a couple of interesting collaborations too.

ILM: What do you look forward to the most about playing live?

Twizzle: The energy from the crowd and interacting with the people that like my music. Every time I do a live show I get shy just before I go on, but once I'm on the stage I feel comfortable. I was born to do this.

ILM: What made you decide to pursue a career in music?

Twizzle: Like I pointed out earlier, I feel like I was born to do this. All the signs of my life have guided me to pursue my dreams of being a success in music.

ILM: Who are your biggest inspirations? Musical or otherwise?

Twizzle: People that have influenced me are Dizzee Rascal, So Solid Crew and other artists that have come from similar backgrounds to me. My background has influenced my music, it has given me various subject and scenarios to write about.

ILM: What music have you been listening to recently?

Twizzle: I've been listening to Lil Waynes new mixtape. Surprisingly I've been listening to Pixie Lott's new song and Kesha's new song Tick Tock. I like that. I listen to anything that makes me feel good really. Even Young Jeezy. Plus I just bought Jay Z's new album. There's a lot of songs I like on it. The UK urban scene is growing and there's a lot of up n coming talent out there.

ILM: What are your future plans?

Twizzle: Global domination! Haha! But seriously, I aim to be at the forefront of the UK urban scene, top the charts, release my album and get the rest of my team str8 grindin recognition as well because we deserve it. We've been putting in work from early.
