Interview #791 At home with Willy Moon Part 1

  • Mon, 2013-01-14 13:05

Perhaps you haven't heard his name, but chances are you're already very familiar with the music of Willy Moon. His huge 2012 single Yeah Yeah was chosen to soundtrack Apple's latest iPod ad, delivering Willy's addictive pop concentrate of 50's rock n roll fused with thick cut hip hop production into millions of UK homes this Christmas.

Snapped up by Island Records in 2010 with just one song uploaded to myspace, Willy Moon has continued to impress, causing Jack White's label Third Man Records to name him "our absolute favorite producer/ singer / rock n roller" and release split 7" Railroad Track / Bang Bang in August 2012.

With his anticipated debut album due for an early 2013 release, I Like Music Editor Kim spent an afternoon with Willy Moon at his London home, drinking tea, chatting about music and listening to his records.

Arriving armed with a bunch of flowers (Willy was feeling a little under the weather that day), the first part of this two part video interview sees Willy play us three records from his vinyl collection and speak about how they helped influence his creative process.

Hope you enjoy the interview. Big thanks to Willy for inviting us to his home.
