Katie Melua Chats to ilikemusic.com

"And once you've got a great song. (I can write ten songs and only one will be good to put on the album). But when you do have it, you get together with the band and jam with them, and ask them what they think and start playing around and seeing what feel they get. And then you try to record it. And if something magic happens you'll use that first take for the actual album, but most of the time you'll constantly revisit the song and try it in different ways to experiment with what works and what doesn't."

But Katie says the best advice she can give to budding artists just starting out is to keep the passion for music strong.

"Be really passionate about the music and really learn your craft," she advises.

"It's so important that you're really good at what you do. But don't even try if you just want to be famous, because I think you'll find that it's not all it's cracked up to be.
