ILM: What's your response to those that criticise the X-Factor and the notion of reality TV and over-night fame?
Alexandra: People have their opinions about the X Factor. It really is a matter of what you give out and what you believe. I'm a believer of positivity. I'm always trying to keep myself positive, even in the worst situations. I believe that if you work hard, good karma will follow you back. It's weird because those that don't like the show, still talk about it. You just have to learn to not let the negativity get into your heart, which is easier said than done believe you me. We all have emotions. But you have to let that pass. You know, "Right. Cool. That's that. Now I'm going to do what I do." That kind of thinking! You have to always work on your craft.
ILM: What would be your advice to anyone in the position you were in before the X Factor?
Alexandra: Remain yourself. There's nothing better than being yourself. For example, in the first two weeks of the show I was trying to be quite professional. Which was apparently my downfall. Then in week three, Candyman came on and I was just like "Forget this! I'm going to let rip! I'm now going to start being myself!" Everyone wants to be perfect, but no one is perfect, you have to remember that. Being true to yourself is what will get you far. You can't be everyone's cup of tea. It's like marmite! You're not out there to impress everyone. You're out there to work. I'm not in a race to be popular. But I am making sure that I'm learning. I'm looking around and training harder than ever before, vocal lessons, dance lessons, everything. You're only as good as your last performance.
