Ali Campbell from UB40 chats to I Like Music

Running Free, the new album from UB40's frontman Ali Campbell, is a reggae-soul-pop tour de force featuring some legendary collaborations with the likes of Sly and Robbie, Beverley Knight, Lemar, Katie Melua and Smokey Robinson, among others.

UB40 were responsible for introducing reggae and dub to white kids back in the early 1980s. as Goldie Lookin' Chain state in their lyrics, "I wouldn't know what dub was if it weren't for UB40." And UB40 have not stopped touring every since.

I Like Music caught up with UB40 front man, Ali Campbell for a marathon chat to talk about his new album, Gwen Stefani, dub and the state of the music business.

I Like Music because.... it's supposed to bring people bring together."
ALI CAMPBELL, UB40

ILM: Your new solo album has some great songs, great vibe and fantastic collaborations too. Of all the tracks on the album, which was the most fun?

ALI: They were all total fun. The whole thing I'm on my 24th album with UB40. I can't say it's as much fun working with UB40 as it is on my own. With these guys it was fun with all of them. Except that I didn't get to work with Mick Hucknall, because his missus was having a baby at the time, so he couldn't commit himself to any day in the studio. I was flattered that he wanted to do it, especially to do it while his wife was having a baby, I thought nice one Mick.
