  • Master GeeMaster Gee: ilikemusic because... It gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.
  • FRANKYNEROFRANKYNERO: ilikemusic because... its the only way i can really express myself
  • Kelly RowlandKelly Rowland: ilikemusic because... Music sets me free. It’s freedom.
  • Kevin MichaelKevin Michael: ilikemusic because... I’ve been singing my entire life. I cannot go without listening to it or singing for a day. I wake up to it, I go to sleep to it, I am music.
  • simon f bakersimon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. Ali Campbell from UB40 chats to I Like Music

ILM: Maybe that's why you've seen longevity, because you've built up a huge fan base plus new fans…

ALI: And we can cut it live as well. That will sort the men out from the boys and sort the wheat from the chaff as they say. If you can't cut it live now, you can't make a living. We used to sell millions of records and, the money from the records, would help sustain the touring and pay us a wage. You take away your records and what have you got left? You've got to go out and play live shows.

ILM: Well, with all the success that you've had. Do you just get used to it, or do you wake up and think, 'wow' and have a real sense of achievement?

ALI: We don't have much downtime to enjoy our success really. I don't think we ever have. I was number one with Baby Come Back, but I was living in Jamaica at the time, so I missed the atmosphere of being number one. We always seem to miss that because we're always working. We've always wanted to do the definitive UB40 story but there's stuff you can't really print…
