Ash Chat To I Like Music

As part of the mid-nineties Britpop phenomenon, Northern Ireland's finest hit the big time with their massive debut album 1977. Years of mixing grungy post-rock and easily recognisable indie have earned them two thumbs up from audiences and critics alike. Sejal Davé caught up with bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray to have a chat about the A to Z Series, Atomic Heart Records and Annie Lennox covers…

ILM: After seventeen years of being in the limelight, how does it feel still being able to make music for a living?

Rick: It's great. Not a lot of bands last that long, so we're obviously doing something right. We thank god that we're still successfully avoiding normal life.

Mark: I think that was our mission in high school - to sort of avoid a nine to five job. We weren't good enough footballers, so we decided to get guitars! Just the fact that we've been able to survive our ups and downs over the years is fantastic.

ILM: Your latest release, Return Of White Rabbit, sounds quite different to your previous work. What's inspired this change in sound?
