BEAK> Chat To I Like Music

Three Bristol musicians, a room, their instruments, and less than a year after getting together, a debut album. No over-dubs, no repair, just the music as it was played when they first got together and started jamming.

Geoff Barrow, best known for forming and producing Portishead is the part owner of independent record label Invada records. Having released material by bass player Billy Fuller's band Fuzz Against Junk and solo material by Matt Williams' solo project Team Brick, the three musicians came together at the label's christmas party for a jam and decided they should hook up again.

ILM: BEAK> got together at the start of 2009, less than a year later you're releasing your debut album. How did you come together? What was the shared vision?

Billy: We didn't have a shared vision really. I played in a band called Fuzz Against Junk and we've put records out on Geoff's label Invada. Matt also performs as a solo performer under the name Team Brick, and he's had records out with Invada. The label have a big Christmas party every year, it's a chance for all the artists to get together and jam. At one of those parties about two years ago myself, Geoff and Matt had a jam. Other people were playing with us, but when we came off stage the three of us discussed very briefly that when we next had time off we should get together and see what happened. Luckily we've been able to do that!
