ILM: What is it about the minimoog?
Tim: It sounds great. The whole range of it sounds great. You can get a good kick-drum sound out of it, you can get a good perucssive high-hat sound out of it, right down to the bass, the lead sound, to wind instruments and the more alien sounds in between. That's the reason, this whole range of instruments that you can get out of one keyboard.
ILM: It's amazing isn't it, that something built so long ago can stand up and still be so fresh now? It'll be used forever.
Tim: It will be, absolutley. Built in the seventies and still going strong. Back then we actually used the minimoog when it was drifting out of tune, with the newer versions like the Little Phatty and the new Voyager that discrepancy has been looked into and they will stay in tune a little bit longer. But, you know, there were instruments which you used to have to switch on and leave for half an hour before you could play on it!
