Brandi Carlile chats to I Like Music

Brandi is endearingly open and honest, and seems confident with her identity. I wonder if compromise is inevitable as you chase or achieve success. Does she feel any pressure to femme up?

"I must have some kind of anti-pressure force-field around me or something because I just wouldn't do it. If anybody ever tried to influence me to try to compromise my integrity in any way, it wouldn't be worth it for them because I wouldn't do it. I feel like you just can't go wrong if you're always choosing what would be best for you. As long as you have your own intentions, as long as you're always doing what you really feel you should be doing, I don't think you can go wrong.

Even if you lose your record deal or your tour doesn't sell out or a song doesn't get on the radio, in the end as long as you've done the right thing, it doesn't matter, you'll always succeed. I would never write commercially or dress commercially or behave in any way that would inspire mainstream success".
