Brandi Carlile chats to I Like Music

"I just can't think of anything better to do with my time than tour".

There is a passion to the band's music that is only truly revealed in their live shows. Renowned for their covers, their Folsom Prison Blues can turn an audience around and Brandi sings the angriest, sexiest version of Creep you will ever hear. So far this passion slightly eludes the recordings, but it seems there is hope yet.

"The direction that I'm going in as a writer is to be a little more reckless and less contained. Just to sort of fight against barriers because any time anything ever breaks through in music or art or film or anything, is when it's not like anything else and so it's not even about breaking through, it's in not wanting to feel repressed. So the songs that are acoustic and stripped down are going to be even more acoustic and more stripped down and the songs that are rock and roll and have an edge are gonna be even more rock and roll and have a sharper edge. So a song like Pride and Joy is I think an improvement on a song like My Song".
