Brandi Carlile chats to I Like Music

This is good news. Brandi is at her most interesting when she pushes her songs to the extreme. Her best moments are when she's dragging the notes from the depths of her body, growling each line. The next album is already written and ready to record in July. Brandi proudly tells me she hopes to record it either in North Carolina where Amy Ray recorded her solo album, or in Nashville. And I'm not sure which option excites her more.

Brandi talks about the Indigo Girls a lot. I ask her how they met.

"I was touring and playing this little place called Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, Georgia, where I always wanted to play because I heard that the Indigo Girls had come up there and used to play there all the time. And one of them happened to be attending the show that night, they came to see me sing and I'd never met them or anything so it was like, somebody hit me with a truck or something! I was just so excited that they cared and from that point on we became friends. I got to sing on their record and they got to sing on mine. They're one of my favourite bands of all time".
