Carl Cox chats to I Like Music
CARL COX: I think what makes a festival is the togetherness of the people who go. People who go to festivals are special; they will dance in the rain, they will hitchhike to the festival, they'll be the last one standing and want to get the lance song in and a lot of people feel free and want to express themselves. It's brilliant that we have these type of events, it's important for a celebration of music and that is the reason that people go.
One moment I can remember with Glastonbury. They wanted me to play the very first dance arena outside the pop and rock world, and with me being a top rave DJ at the time, they decided to take a chance and put me on. And, at the same time, it was a Sunday night, Goldie had his new album out and he was promoting it, so a lot of the industry were saying they were going to see him and not only that, The Cure were back together and a lot of people were saying they were going to see The Cure on The Pyramid Stage, and I was thinking "hmmm, I don't think anyone knows I'm here..."
