DJ Yoda chats to I Like Music
The undisputed king of hip-hop humour, and everyone's favourite party turntablist - DJ Yoda, released his debut artist album, The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda, in September 2006. The incredible album features guest appearances from the likes of Andy Cooper, Biz Markey, Mark Hamill, David Dickinson, Sway and Jungle Brothers.
I Like Music caught up with DJ Yoda to chat about his live show, DJing as part of an orchestra, playing in front of George Lucas and his Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) sample.
"I like music because… it's better than work."

ILM: "The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda" is your debut artist album is out now. Which track did you have the most fun laying down in the studio?
DJ YODA: I can tell you which one was the worst to make in the studio. The worst one was definitely the Paul Barnham one because it took about two years to make. It's more drum and bass which is less what I normally make, It was a real struggle to get my head round that kind of sound. So there'd be days where we'd spend the whole week on 8 bars of the song and stuff.
But the most fun was probably the Zipper Scratch actually, which basically involved me standing in front of a microphone with a zip up top and scratching with my zip which is quite good fun.
ILM: You've got Biz Markie enthusing about his choice of morning tucker on "Breakfast Cereal", Sway on "Chatterbox" and Jungle Brothers on "Playin' Around", how did you go about getting these guests on the album, was it a long process?
DJ YODA: It was a very long process over a few years. With Biz Markie, I decided at the start of making the album that I wasn't going to stop until I had a track with him, because he's always been my favourite rapper, so I pursued him for quite a long time [laughs] and ended up swapping some music with him and kind of passing the initiation test with him in terms of me being good enough to record. So that was pretty exciting for me to have that one come through in the end; that was really cool. Jungle Brothers I'd been touring with and I'd seen them at shows and really liked what they were doing. There's one track with these rappers called Self Titled and Apathy and they've got an album coming out on Antidote early next year, so that's how I hooked up with them, through the same record label. And Sway and Aspectss, I singled them out as the British rappers that are out there who have a sense of humour, so I really wanted to work with them.
