There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.

David Guetta chats to I Like Music

DAVID: Love Is Gone is a classic David Guetta kind of track, always this balance between dark electronic music background and some hope by a Gospel singer and that's what I do, kind of opposite vibes into the same music.

ILM: You were 13 when you first started mixing vinyl and DJing. What made you start DJing in the first place?

DAVID: I always wanted to be a DJ and I was practising and playing records in my bedroom every day after school and then I started to organise some school parties in my basement and would charge £1 to get in, so had a good sense of business already when I was 15. And I just made my dream come true but it took me a while.

ILM: You then worked as a DJ at Broad when you were 17…

DAVID: Yeah… my first job in a club was in a gay club, not that I'm gay, but this was the only club I could find. At first I was not so happy about this, but then it's seemed like a big piece of luck in my life as my roots were funk and this is how I discovered bands like New Order and Depeche Mode as they were very popular in the gay scene. And then I was wondering what was going on in the big gay clubs in America, and that was in 1987 and I heard about house music and in 1988 I went to London and witnessed the most incredible thing - the DJ was on stage and everyone was worshipping the guy like a God and I was like, this is what I want to do. I want to do this in Paris, and that's how it all started with me and house music.
