David Guetta chats to I Like Music
House music was really born in the gay clubs and a lot of people forget that now. At the time that was the only way you could play house music.
ILM: How does playing a gig in a club now compare to playing the first gig you played?
DAVID: It's totally different now because, when I started, there was no money, there was no fame, for anybody doing this job. So, all the people got into it because of their passion for music and wanting to share it with people. Now a lot of kids want to DJ like they want to be a football player or a model or an actor because it comes with the fame and whole kit. So it's a little bit different. And obviously I was playing in some of the best clubs in Paris but nobody knew me. I mean, I had a reputation as a DJ but nobody would know my face. The DJ booth was even in a separate room. So when I was playing a record I'd have to go out of the dj booth, open the door, go to the dance floor to look how it was, and then go back, which is totally crazy when you think about it, and now DJ's are filling stadiums on stage. So the job is totally different.
