ILM: You have played the Pyramid stage before though...
Matthew: Yes! Yes, it was 1997 that we played The Pyramid stage, just before Radiohead gave their seminal performance. It's one of those things, like Forest Gump, everyone remembers the big thing but not the small one! We were there! We were on before! Hahah!
ILM: You warmed the crowd up! Their success is all down to you and that one night! Haha!
Matthew: Yeah, yeah! Some would say that if we hadn't have warmed the crowd up, they wouldn't have had such a good gig. I mean, some would say that. I couldn't possibly comment, but that's what some would say! Haha!
ILM: What do you think makes the perfect festival?
Matthew: Weather. Sunshine. We played some festivals last year, Wicker Man, Guillfest and Summer Sundae. At some of them it just chucked it down. You know, a great spirit does come out while it is lashing down, but it has got to be said that if the sun is shining, everyone is smiling and there is not an umbrella in sight, then that is what makes it. Also the other thing, it's people coming together. I remember the first Glastonbury I went to, which was the first Glastonbury we played. I remember watching Primal Scream sat on someones shoulders, part of 25,000 other people singing along and thinking "They like this song as well as me!" There's nothing better than realising your fellow humans are just as passionate about music as you are!
