ILM: What would your advice be to anyone looking to get into the music industry, become a successfull band, support Radiohead on The Pyramid stage?!

Matthew: My stock answer to any young kid who asks me how to be in a band is "Don't do it."

ILM: Really?

Matthew: Oh yeah. If they really, really want to get into it and they really believe in themselves then they're not going to listen to someone like me are they? That's the main thing. You are really, really going to have to want to do it and you really must know that you're good. No delusion, like these idiots on the X Factor. It takes real patience to see it through. If I can stop some of the people that aren't good enough from doing it and they can go on and have a happy life doing something then great! That will leave the way for the people who are good. I don't know. You know, maybe it's selfish of me to say that! I've done it and it's been fantastic!

ILM: When I spoke to Francis Rossi (Status Quo) he said that when people asked him how to be in a band he said exactly the same thing, for the exact same reason!

Matthew: So me and Francis Rossi share the same wisdom! Ha! Brilliant!

ILM: And the same shaking shoulders maybe?
