Following the success of her debut single Between Islands, which sold out of its limited run of 1000 copies within a week, Ella Montclare is back with her new single I Surrender, a quirky mash-up of trip hop and soul. Having topped the UK myspace trip-hop charts for over a year and worked with Dr Dre's #1 engineer Steve Baughman, I Like Music caught up with Ella for a quick to chat to find out more about her music.

ILM: How would you describe the vibe of your music?
Ella: Trip-hop beats and vocal sweets, confessing soaring tales of love and melancholy. Someone more sensible than me described it as Portishead-meets-Sade-meets-Prince. Quite a threesome! Haha!
ILM: What's the story behind your single I Surrender?
Ella: It's about the dilemma of a modern woman. Women now seem to live in this 'Sex In The City scenario.' We're often taught to prioritise career and materialism over relationships and love. The song is about the conflict of meeting a man you would like to surrender to, in the old fashioned sense, clashing with the idea of wanting to be a strong independent gal....
