So everyone's saying Michael's the greatest, James is the greatest, but we watched all that. And it was on that level of artistry and he just showed me, 'This is where you could go. If they could do that, why not?' Then he said, 'nothing is for certain; you never know if anything is going to ever work. I didn't know if Crazy was gonna hit, and it just went nuts. And he was like, 'so don't feel like pressured; like this had better be the one.' And I looked at him and thought, 'but you're Cee-Lo'.
But it's true, nothing's for certain, every record could be your last, so try and make the best you could and be as sincere about it as possible. And that's what he said, 'just be 100% about it, be sincere about everything you put down on that record, sing like it's your last breath, lyric write like it's the last lyric you'll ever write, and stay humble with it.' Don't be like 'yeah I did 15 million of this,' because that's not your talent, God gave you that, and it was like that whole moment. He never gave me a big speech, he just kept saying things out of the blue.
