Everlast Chats To ilikemusic
Everlast: I don't know if they have changed much, they just get broader. Especially the more I am exposed to new bands or old bands that I didn't know about. If they touch me in my soul then I will draw from them. Perhaps I will hear a sound somewhere and then think 'I want to make something like that.' But, at the core of everything, I consider myself a B-Boy. I consider everything I do to be based in Hip-Hop, no matter how far I may stray from what traditional Hip-Hop is.
ILM: What are your opinions of the Hip-Hop scene today? What artists are you into?
Everlast: As far as new artists are concerned, I tell everybody, love him or hate him, Kanye West is kind of a genius. I dig a lot of what he does. Especially personally. Sometimes he will produce a song for someone else that I won't really dig but I think his records are, you know, he takes risks. I dig that. I think that is really the key to being artistically successful. You might not always be financially successful but taking risks is what it is all about. The guy is doing his thing. I think his production and even his writing is pretty f**king good.
