Gomez chat to I Like Music

ILM: Your freakin' brilliant album How We Operate is out now and was produced by Gil Norton - your first outside producer - whose previous credits include The Pixies and The Foo Fighters. What was it like to work with a producer outside the band for the first time?

BEN: He was great. I mean the main thing that Gil did for us was basically to organise things. He's a really good organiser. He kind of organised the songs and organised us.

We've produced all our other records ourselves. We've worked with top engineers but we've always been producing them. So, one of the main things is logistics and stuff like that, who's going to be pressing record and getting the sound together and that kind of thing, he took care of all of that and just allowed us to focus on the songs.

ILM: So you can focus creatively.

BEN: Yeah.

ILM: You guys have said with this album you wanted to focus on songs, melodies and words, rather than volume. Can you describe the Gomez process of such quality music-making?
