ILM: Any tips or advice for budding artists and producers starting out?

BEN: Don't take yourself too seriously.

ILM: Yeah, you've got to have fun and enjoy it, otherwise what's the point?

BEN: Exactly.

ILM: You won the Mercury Music Prize in 99 with Bring It On. Any idea who might win this year's?

BEN: I don't know. The band I'd like to win it never will. There's this new band called TUUNG who I like, they're very good and I think they should win it but they never will.

ILM: How was it to win such a highly regarded award? You'd been making music for some time…

BEN: It was amazing to be honest. We never thought we'd win it. We didn't really think we were making pop music or music that would be massively popular, and still don't. But it really helped us avoid a lot of hard work I guess.

ILM: It gave you that boost in the right direction

BEN: Yeah, it was great getting in front of people's eyes, but I'm still a bit confounded as to why we won it

ILM: I think with prizes like that, its less about popularity, and more about whether its good well-crafted music…

BEN: I guess that's it, but it's a funny one.

ILM: Can you describe your favourite place on earth?

BEN: That's really hard; I've travelled a lot so there's several. I really like Sydney Australia, that's great and I've spent a lot of time there. And Petra Jordan is very nice, that's where I got engaged so it's somewhere special.
