ILM: What do you think of the hip-hop scene today, how does it differ from when you began your career?
Grandmaster Flash: Now I have more music to chose from. More countries to play it in. A younger audience has their preference. An older skool audience has their preference. Sometimes I'm fortunate enough to have both of those people in the same room at the same time. For me, as a DJ, it gives me more to play and it keeps me excited because there is always something new and hot that I have to look for, that I have to play. It is wonderful. I can't complain. I can't.
ILM: Do you remember when you first took a track, cut it up and mixed it? Do you remember what track that was?
Grandmaster Flash: Heck no! Hahaha! There were so many, you've got to remember that during my experimental years I went through countless records until I got it right. The experimental years are where you're by yourself and you screw it up until you get it right. I don't really remember.....um...boy...I don't know! Hahah! There were so many that I tried until I got it right! Me being the inventor of the artform that every DJ in the world uses, I had to go through SO many different genres of records with SO many different breaks until it felt right. The first song, that's a good question, I need to keep that in mind! I don't remember!

You might argue that you can translate emotions through films and through books but anyone can make music, whether that be humming or singing along to the radio, it’s something that gives enjoyment and positivity to many people.
