ILM: What would be your advice to anyone else with a similar passion?
Grandmaster Flash: You've gotta love this. If you love something you will accept the ups and downs. If you get into it because you see somebody else do it and you don't love it, it will defeat you. It will have you giving up and walking away. There were plenty of times where I was just like, 'Dammit, why doesn't it work this way, why doesn't this mix work this way,' and there were plenty of times where I possibly wanted to give up in my early years but, of course, I loved it so much. It made me want to keep testing it, keep trying it, try it this way, try it that way, mix it this way, try it that way, cut it this way, rub it this way, until I made it work. I was in love with what I was doing. But, it did have it's ups and downs.
ILM: There are some people who achieve a certain level of fame and then seem satisfied. But you're still making albums, you're still playing live, you're still working on your craft. That's very inspiring.
Grandmaster Flash: It is a passion. I didn't see the money aspect of it overall. I didn't see it like 'I'm going to make a career out of this.' I was just in love with doing it. If you love something and you have a passion for it then in order for it to take off, if you love what you do, it'll take care of you. I'm a strong believer that it will take care of me for the rest of my life. I just honestly feel that way.
