Guillemots Chat To ilikemusic

Having spent most of 2007 writing and recording in a converted East London synagogue Guillemots released their second album, Red, at the beginning of 2008. A master-class in dynamic, exhilarating pop music, the eleven-song Red adds a distinct edge to their Mercury-nominated sound. Written by all four members of the band - Fyfe Dangerfield, Magrao, Aristazabal Hawkes and Greig Stewart, it was co-produced by their longstanding engineer Adam Noble.

Guillemots are currently coming to the end of a UK tour and have confirmed a number of festival dates for summer 2008. We caught up with Aristazabal Hawkes to chat about the spontaneous, improvisational approach Guillemots take when making their music, working with Sir Ian McKellen and the process of putting together their latest album.

"I Like Music because… I can't imagine a world without music. It is the most honest form of personal expression that I can find." ARISTAZABAL HAWKES, GUILLEMOTS

ILM: Falling Out Of Reach is your fantastic new single. Can you describe it's vibe?

Aristazabal : It's a funny one really. When we first wrote it, it started off quite differently. It was a bit faster and we called it a Lily Allen song because it was more sort of scar and up-beat. It was a happy, happy sounding love song but with sad lyrics. It's all about being over-worked, tired and needing a bit of a break.
