I Like Music Because heading
  • Master GeeMaster Gee: ilikemusic because... It gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.

  • Lupe FiascoLupe Fiasco: ilikemusic because... It gives me a chance to escape and reach people I wouldn’t ordinarily be able to reach. And without music the world would be kinda quiet.
  • iona starriona starr: ilikemusic because... it soothes my soul ;) x
  • simon f bakersimon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
  • Lady SovereignLady Sovereign: ilikemusic because... I do!
  • william youngwilliam young: ilikemusic because... The Boat That Rocked started the musical revolution for the musical nation.

Hard-Fi Chat To I Like Music

ILM: What advice do you have for young musicians?

Richard: It sounds patronizing, but you've got to really want it - some people want it until they can afford a holiday or a new car but you've got to stick at it. No one's going to come knocking at your door, the whole dream of playing a gig and some A&R guy finding you is very rare. It did happen with my first band and the guy who found us is now our manager, but you have to make yourself heard - make your own record on a computer. The computer is the new punk rock instrument - with a PC you can record your music, mix it, master it, do the artwork, distribute it, host your website. We made a record for £300 with no idea what we were doing. We gave it time and poured love into it and we're really pleased with it. Make sure everything is as good as you can do before people hear it. Then if people turn round and say the drums aren't good enough, you can say they're wrong, because you know it's as good as it can be.
