Hard-Fi Chat To I Like Music

ILM: Please tell me your favourite tune that makes you instantly smile?

Richard: Sixties soul tracks, or 'London Calling' by The Clash to get us fired up before a gig. That's what our tour DJ played in Bristol before we came on.

ILM: What ambitions do you have left to fulfil?

Richard: It's still early days - if we were scaling Everest we're still at base camp. We're extremely ambitious; we want to go as far as we can, play in as many countries, sell records to as many people as possible. People say we have a British sound but there are towns like Staines all over the world with the same outlook and problems; nothing to do, bored, in a job they hate, with no money, falling in love - everyone can relate to those things. We want to be as successful as possible - we may not get there but we've got to give it a shot. We're not one of those bands who try to play it cool and say we don't care - bollocks to that; if you want to play the Camden Barfly over and over it's down to you but we want bigger and better things. You've got to aim for the stars.

ILM: You've been on the road nearly all year, finishing up near Christmas. So what's on the Hard Fi Christmas wishlist?

Richard: Some sleep! The strangest things become like luxuries, like sleep in your own bed and seeing your friends and family. So for Christmas some sleep please. And a nice jumper.
