Estelle chats to I Like Music
ILM: I like the lyrics to Listen Up too.
ESTELLE: Yeah, that was it, they were saying, 'you've got to do your English sh1t,' and I was like, 'for real, but by the end of this you'll be doing my accent. And all of them were trying to say, 'my accent' and I was like, ' we don't talk like that, stop it, I've been around you long enough now for you to get it right, stop this now.'
ILM: You recently performed at the BBC Electric Proms. What do you look forward to most about playing live?
ESTELLE: Talking to the fans, talking to the people. A lot of them don't know anything about me past 1980. So, when I get up there and really perform, a lot of them haven't bought the album because they thought it was 12 tracks like 1980, and that's cool for a minute, it's a really good song, but that's the impression they got. So, when I got to open for John Legend and they see me perform, they're like 'I didn't know you was all of that!' So this is my mission to let people know, there's a whole lot more to me than what you think. Like I said, it's 100% Estelle now.
