Jacob Golden Chats To I Like Music
Jacob: I guess, you know, from growing up in California and then being dropped off in central London, it was a completely different world. Just seeing everyone gave me a whole new take on things. There was a real allure to that I guess. As a song writer, to just be able to sit and watch people and watch the city moving around me was just a really interesting process. It is completely different to where I grew up. It inspired a lot of words.
ILM: It comes backed with a quite brilliant cover version of US punk band The Descendents' controversial/political track 'Merican, the lyrics of which run thus: "I come from the land of Ben Franklin/Twain and Poe and Walt Whitman/Otis Redding, Ellington/The country that I love/But it's the land of the slaves and the Klu Klux Klan/Haymarket Riot and the Great Depression/Don't get caught in Vietnam/The sickest joke I know." I guess whether we're from the US or UK or other countries there's that duality of good vs evil. Do you think it's important for music to touch on these themes?
