Jacob Golden Chats To I Like Music
Jacob: Um….well I mean I think music can be used for different purposes. Especially folk music. It has a great history, you know, the protest song…and um.. I haven't personally written a lot of what I would consider protest songs. I have written more reflections of the heart type songs. I found this song and just kind of gave a new take on it really. The original comes from a punk band, a louder thing but it actually worked really well doing it quietly. I think with poignant lyrics, it can actually be more effective when it isn't shouting in your face, it can get into your head and your heart more sometimes, if it is sung slower.
ILM: You performed a stunning version of Out Come The Wolves on Later With Jools Holland. How was that whole experience?
Jacob: Yeah, it was such a good evening. They have this whole operation, you get walked into this huge studio, lights everywhere, cameras everywhere, loads of people working on the set with the bands set up all around. I have watched the show quite a few times so to see it from the other side of the television was a strange experience. When you are actually in there it has a sudden reality to it. I was like, wow, I totally recognise this place but it's kind of like being in a dream, you know? I think it actually was a little bit smaller than I imagined. With all the sweeping cameras you usually think wow this is massive.
