Jacob Golden Chats To I Like Music
Jacob: Well, a lot of it happened out of necessity. When I first started making the album I wasn't involved with the label. I was making the album just because I wanted to make an album. And actually, I didn't want to make an album at that point I was just recording songs. I didn't have a big vision. It was more like I was writing these songs and I wanted to record them while I was writing them. I just happened to be in different places when I got the inspiration for a song. I wanted to try and lay it down as quickly as I could. It was really just about trying to capture the moment.
ILM: Please can you describe the Jacob Golden music making process? Lyrics first then melody or vice versa or just random?
Jacob: Um…it is usually the melody. I will come up with some sort of melodic verse or chorus and then maybe a few words in there that sort of stick. It is more about a feeling. I will play that for a while and just play around with it, then see if any words come out. Really it's just about discovering what the song wants to be. I rarely sit down and think I want to write a song about this, I just sit down and let it come out. Usually at the end of it I just go 'oh, this is what this is about' you know? Chipping away at it until it feels right.
