Jamie Cullum Chats To I Like Music

But for me, I think if you want a music career in a different way, all you can do is follow exactly what your heart tells you to do. Make the music you want to make, make it how you want to make it and make it sound how it sounds in your head. That's the only place to grow from. You have your best selling point, because no one can copy you, plus you're doing it for the right reasons. It's bloody hard work! I don't think people realise how much hard work it is. If you don't 100% believe in what you're doing, then it's the hardest job in the world. If you believe in what you're doing then however hard it is, it's worth it!

ILM: How have you been affected by the fame that has come with your musical success?

Jamie: It's pretty un-affecting really. The only way it effects it truly, is that you realise you have an audience waiting to hear what you're going to do. It doesn't really put pressure on you, but it gives you a sense of immediacy, you realise there are people who want to hear what you're doing. I'm pretty good at ignoring all the other stuff! I could go forward for a hundred and one TV shows or whatever, but I'm happy with my friends, family and the places I go. If I'm not on the road or in the studio making music, I'm hanging out with my friends and family in the pub or at home!
