Jay -Z Interview

I was in Bratislava and they were singing all these records as if they grew up with them, and it was just buggin' me out. Like… man, you what…? Wasn't this country like under communist rule just 10 years ago? Just the… the process and how fast, you know, everything is changing. That's incredible to me. The access and how people know the music is…it's unreal.

ILM: Traditionally, a British crowd seems to have a reputation for being a little more polite, I guess is the word…

Jay-Z : I don't know what shows you guys go to! In Japan I've seen that before. Japan is really polite, like it's really quiet before the record. I remember the first time I went to Japan. It was so quiet. I was like "Can you check there are people out there?" I thought we'd bombed. I thought that we didn't sell any tickets. So I look out and there's seriously, and I'm not joking, there's just thousands of people, the place is packed. "I'm like… what's happening?" And they're not speaking to each other, they're just standing, waiting. No-one's speaking. And then I go out, they go crazy, and then the song ends it's like… there's a clap and then… quiet again. But I don't get that in England. It's a rowdy bunch actually. [LAUGHING] Lots of stomping in the stands and all that. A rather different experience!

  3. Jo WhileyJo Whiley: ilikemusic because... It makes me laugh and it makes my cry and it gets me out of a stress if I’m in a stress, and, if I’m in a good place then it will make me in a better place. It’s all about the emotion, it’s all about the feeling where music takes you to and what affect it has on you.
  4. Steve, Hard-FiSteve, Hard-Fi: ilikemusic because... Life is not worth living without it. Everything else could disappear, but music is the one thing that always remains with me throughout my entire life.
  5. JunJun: ilikemusic because... music can convey a mood, enhance a mood or change a mood. Music can be used to inspire and the artform is simple yet complicated. It's fun to listen to and even more fun to create and perform. It speaks when just a simple word can't. It's a blessing!!
  6. O'BaileyO'Bailey: ilikemusic because... I can live vicariously through a song, whether it's a screaming angry rock anthem or a silly kids song ("I'm a little yellow fish" anyone?) haha!
  7. Leon Jean-MarieLeon Jean-Marie: ilikemusic because... It transcends. It really creates emotion with someone. That feeling it gives you, it goes through boundaries. To create something, it just breaks through all the walls. When you connect with a song, that is it, that is magic isn't it?
  8. Just JackJust Jack: ilikemusic because... I can’t explain why I like music!
