John Digweed chats to I Like Music

ILM: The DJ Top 100 voting has started. There are so many cool DJs now, with so many using different tools, styles etc... You've topped the list. What ambitions do you still have left to achieve?

JOHN: I've been very lucky to be voted number one in DJ magazine, so that's a fantastic thing to win. For me, the most important thing is that, week in week out, people come out to hear me play. So as long as those people are there and you're giving them 110% and they're enjoying what you do, that for me is the most important thing; it always has been. Awards are nice to get and it shows that people appreciate what you do, but, for me, the real reward is seeing those people in front of you every week enjoying what you do. That's where I get the drive and the passion every week to do what I do.

I do the radio show and the emails I get in every day from all over the world that's when you know what you're doing is all worthwhile because you're reaching people all over the world. A few years ago you couldn't do a radio show and have people email you from different continents saying they like the show or this guest DJ you had on. It makes a difference. It shows that people like what you do and care about what you do.
