You could be completely miserable or waiting for a bus and put on any song that inspires you and you can escape into a little world, well that’s what I tend to do anyway.

Katie Melua Chats to ilikemusic.com

"For some reason it was that gig where the band just seemed to become this one force. It sounds horribly cheesy, but I can't even describe it. There was this amazing huge feeling like being part of something really special and I think those emotions you experience on stage, you don't often experience them on such a high level as I've described, like nothing I've ever experienced."

With a best-selling album under her belt, how does Katie set about creating such awesome music? What's the process?

"With songwriting, I'd probably start with an idea. So I'll see something and have a subject and start crafting the lyrics and melody to it. But if you're mucking about on your guitar and get a nice little riff or melody, you'll develop that and then put lyrics to it.

"Usually when you're writing a song, as soon as you finish it, that's when you know if the song is good or not. If you can sing it and play it on the guitar and it sounds amazing right there and then without any production or any instruments to cloud it, that's when you know you've got a great song.
