Katie Melua Chats to ilikemusic.com

In November 2003 Katie headlined her own gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire ("Melua stunned the audience into silence with warm pure jazz vocals" - The Times), it was here that her new fans really could see her natural talent for performing.

Her debut album 'Call Off the Search' was released in November 2003 and shipped over 1.2 million copies, reaching number 1 in the UK charts and obtaining quadruple platinum status. This also made Katie Melua the highest selling UK artist of the year!

So, how is success treating the young songstress? Is she having enough time to smell the roses?

"It's been amazing, I've been more shocked than anyone about the success. You do have to find the time to just step back and chill out a little bit and spend some time with your family and friends really. So I try to do that as much as I can."

And, on the other end of the spectrum, what was it like meeting the Queen and having her tell Katie she'd heard her song on the radio?
