ILM: 'Hopes & Fears' has not been out of the top 20 since release and has sold gazillions. Rightly so, but has your rise to fame been a bit manic? I mean, have you had a chance to smell the roses and enjoy the journey?
RICHARD: I think in hindsight we should have tried to enjoy it more than we did. We're gonna enjoy the second album more. I'm much more chilled out this time! It's definitely been manic, and we went straight from being on the road into the studio for this record, but we are quite obsessive people, and if we'd had a break we just would have been lying on a beach worrying about the next album.
We definitely hit a wall at some point last year where we stopped communicating and looking out for each other, and for a while we didn't feel like a band any more, but our reaction was to get back in the studio and get our frustrations and anxiety onto the record. I think it comes across.
ILM: Having grown up together and toured the world together, you must know each other very well. Can you tell us the best characteristic and worst habit about each other?
